So, How Are We Doing?

I had to pause my series on Our Journey to share with you a post from another blog. My friend Jenny and her husband Stuart, who traveled with us to Kinshasa and back, adopted two children from the Congo as well. We’ve walked much of this journey together, and are experiencing many of the same things.

In fact, she has been my life line this last week when I thought I would lose my mind. She’s a beautiful woman of God and wrote this post about what it’s like to be in the early phases being home. Please read this post. Except for names and numbers of children, we are on the exact same journey.

Adoption is beautiful, but it is hard. We knew it would be. In fact, it’s probably not quite as bad as we thought it would be. We are anxious for the day when the screaming, crying, kicking, stealing, fighting disspates into more normal life. There’s so much to overcome, and so much to learn, probably even more to unlearn. That’s why we’re keeping our world small right now. Life is already overwhelming enough for them as they learn what it means to live together in a family and in a country where they don’t speak the language or understand the rules of society. But they are making remarkable progress, and we hope things will begin to look a little more normal over the next few months.

  1. Praying for you, Ken and Robin! I know that it is not an easy journey, especially at first. One day at a time! You are remarkable people serving an even more remarkable God capable of healing any wound and coaching you every step of the way. He will give you strength as you grow closer to Him and lead these children to Him as well.

  2. Robin,

I just started following your journey a few weeks ago. I didn’t really get to pray with you before you met your kids, but I am praying for you now.

Jen Hatmaker has two really great posts I’ve pondered as we’ve started our adoption journey. After the Airport – http://jenhatmaker.com/blog/2011/09/06/after-the-airport and The Truth About Adoption: One Year Later: http://jenhatmaker.com/blog/2012/08/21/the-truth-about-adoption-one-year-later

You are so wise to keep your world small.

Praying for your kids — for healing by God’s grace. Praying for you and your husband — for strength. Just praying.

    🙂 Ami
